On December 9, 2015, at its 7573rd meeting, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) under the leadership of Jordan unanimously adopted United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250 on “Youth, Peace and security ". This resolution therefore represents the first formal effort of the United Nations that specifically addresses the importance and role of young people as actors who can contribute to the construction and maintenance of peace and security. Resolution 2250 is very important because world leaders recognize that they cannot build lasting peace without the effective participation of young people, the protection of their lives, their meaningful engagement and their empowerment on issues of peace and security. Furthermore, in order to facilitate the effective implementation of Resolution 2250, the Security Council has adopted additional resolutions including Resolution 2419 (2018) which emphasizes the inclusive representation of young people in peace negotiations and agreements. peace for conflict prevention and resolution. Each Resolution building on the other, Resolution 2535 (2020) clearly hammers home the institutionalization and accelerated implementation of the Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) agenda. The latter calls on Member States for political commitment to the operationalization of the YPS agenda, the development of guidelines on the protection of young people and the meaningful inclusion of young people in peace processes and action. humanitarian. Paragraph 14 of Resolution 2535 offers more guidance to member states in this regard.
It is in this context that some youth organizations working on issues related to peace and security, have formed a platform with the aim of contributing effectively to the implementation of Resolution 2250 in the DRC.
