Community Studios Overview

Community Studios is dedicated to changing the way people perceive and move through the built environment, and how they connect to their surroundings. We’ve all been there. You’re running late for an appointment, things haven’t been going your way, and it seems like everything that could go wrong, has gone wrong. Once you arrive at your destination, you’re a little more flustered than normal, and the signage isn’t clear. You watch the clock as you scramble to find your way around a space, feeling lost and more stressed than when you arrived. Whether you’re on your way to a job interview, a medical appointment, or visiting a friend at their new condo, this isn’t a positive experience. That’s where we come in. As Experience Designers and Strategists, we’re passionate about experience design and its impact on the community’s experiences. We know we’ve done our jobs well when someone doesn’t cognitively notice our work, but gets to where they’re going. We consider a project a success when our work melds into the surroundings and becomes a seamless element of the experience of an indoor or outdoor space. But the benefits of wayfinding and experience design don’t stop there. Studies have shown that effective signage can save institutions and businesses money in wasted time (those delayed appointments add up!); and even lower instances of crime with less people retracing their steps, looking lost. Community Studios works with a broad range of municipalities, healthcare providers, private industry, developers, and cultural event organizers to create spaces that are welcoming, informative, and inclusive.
