Brief History A program in Computer Science was initially offered through the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. The program began in 1970 and had its first graduating class in 1975. In 1989 the Computing Sciences Department was separated from the Mathematics Department and the undergraduate program in Computer Science was separated into two programs, Computer Science and Computer Information Systems. The masters program in Software Engineering began in 1990 and had its first graduates in 1993. The department offers a Combined BS/BA and MS in the Software Engineering program, which allows admitted Computer Science and Applied Computing students to complete their undergraduate degree and the graduate degree in five years. The program in Information Technology began in the Fall of 2016. In 2019, the CIS program was rebranded as Applied Computing, giving students the freedom to focus their cognate on business or any other discipline. Also introduced was a Game Development Track within the Computer Science major.
