Center of Excellence for NaNo Energy & Catalysis Technology (CONNECT) Overview

CONNECT is a pioneering research center at Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM), established in October 2021 to drive innovation in nanomaterials, catalysis, and sustainable energy technologies. As XMUM’s first Center of Excellence, CONNECT supports Malaysia’s strategic goals under the Belt and Road Initiative and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our interdisciplinary research covers: • Advanced nanomaterials and 2D materials • Photocatalysis and electrocatalysis for solar fuel production • Plasma technologies for environmental remediation • Energy harvesting, storage (batteries and supercapacitors) • Computational nanotechnology for material design Led by Prof. Dr. Ong Wee Jun (an internationally recognized scientist) alongside key permanent members Assoc. Prof. Dr. Haw Choon Yian , Prof. Dr. Huang Nay Ming, Dr. Lam Weng Hoong, and Dr. Tan Ji Siang. CONNECT fosters strong academia-industry partnerships with key players like PETRONAS and NanoMalaysia Berhad to translate breakthrough science into real-world impact.
