Het Consortium Agroforestry Vlaanderen zet in op onderzoek, kennisdeling, ondersteuning van toepassers en versterken van goed beleid rond agroforestry, in Vlaamse en Europese context.
Het is een informeel samenwerkingsverband tussen het Instituut voor Landbouw-, Visserij- en Voedingsonderzoek (ILVO), Bosplus, Inagro, Boerennatuur Vlaanderen, Universiteit Gent, Bodemkundige Dienst België, Praktijkpunt Landbouw Vlaams Brabant en Wervel, gecoördineerd door ILVO.
In agroforestry of boslandbouw worden bomen of struiken doelbewust gecombineerd met een landbouwgewas of dieren op eenzelfde perceel;
Licht, water en nutriënten worden efficiënter benut; De totale productiviteit is groter; Er is een verhoogde biodiversiteit en er worden meer ecosysteemdiensten geleverd, zoals koolstofopslag, beschutting voor vee en weerbaarheid tegen klimaatextremen.
