Started in 2013, Craftworx Designs is a Barbadian company that designs and handcrafts a variety of wooden items made solely of Barbadian woods. The chief artisan and Managing Director is Stephenson Carter, an engineer by profession but now a passionate woodworker.
Our 3 guiding principles are
- We use only local woods; while Barbados Mahogany is the most well know of Barbadian woods, we make use of any local wood. Some of most memorable pieces have been made from Pride of India, Saman and Seaside Mahoe.
- Our items are functional; while we do make decorative items, a large part of our focus is on functional pieces like writing instruments, cutting and serving boards, bowl, platters and boxes..
- We honour the wood; we use no varnishes or stains in our finishing process – only natural oils and waxes.
