Welcome to the Cranfield UIAS Team's official page, representing Cranfield University in the IMechE UAS Challenge 2025. This annual competition brings together some of the best engineering minds to design, build, and showcase cutting-edge Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) capable of addressing real-world challenges.
For the 2025 mission, we are developing an innovative hybrid eVTOL UAV designed to autonomously perform critical tasks such as take-off and landing, waypoint navigation, aid package delivery, and safe return to base. Our UAV combines the precision of multi-rotor systems with the efficiency and endurance of fixed-wing flight. With an emphasis on sustainability, we intend to reduce environmental effect by using recyclable materials and optimising energy consumption.
As a diverse team of postgraduate students, we're using our experience in aerospace engineering, autonomous systems, and project management to create a system that excels in endurance, payload delivery, and reliability. The competition also prioritises education and STEM outreach, giving us the opportunity to inspire the next generation of engineers through community participation and interactive workshops.
Our journey is divided into several steps, beginning with concept selection and on to comprehensive design, manufacturing, and rigorous testing. Along the way, we intend to exhibit not only technical expertise, but also teamwork, leadership, and innovation. We take pride in adhering to industry-standard engineering practices, ensuring that our system meets the safety and regulatory requirements.
