The Critical Materials Crossroads (CMC) is a collider of investors, innovators, legislators and small/large business around critical materials. The CMC aim is to align/rewire the extraction of critical natural resources and their off-take to critical materials processors and their off-take to incumbent critical goods manufacturers. The vision is an ecosystem of manufacturing that meets essential national security supply chain needs, while simultaneously, enabling and raising all economic development metrics of individuals in the greater Kansas City area of service.
The formation of the CMC establishes an innovation center for the state based on the foundational element of the University of Missouri system. The hub of the CMC is co-located with the heart of the technology economy in the state on the campus of the University of Missouri – Kansas City.
From the UMKC center, the CMC:
• engages community and industry leaders to build support and scale opportunities in the critical materials / critical goods marketplace,
• identifies requirements and builds out capacity to train the workforce needed to support these industries, and
• leverages research expertise across the UM system in support of critical materials initiatives.
