Crua is an independent art project born from the urge to bring artistic experimentation and critical thinking to the interior of Portugal’s Alentejo region. Based in Vila Viçosa, Crua aims to promote a deeper comprehension of the artistic languages of today in close dialog with its surroundings and audiences.
Crua is the Portuguese feminine word for raw. In this spirit, we aim to create a space that will never be finessed and will always reinvent itself, contributing to the reflection around socio-cultural interiority and subsequent contemporary artistic production, with the vocation of supporting and developing processes that reinforce the local artistic fabric as well as its audiences.
Founded in 2022 by artist and curator Patrícia Corrêa after she decided to look for a space away from the city frenzy where she could live, work, and share. Vila Viçosa was the place chosen for its location and vast cultural possibilities.
Conscious of its interiority Crua is a project in constant construction, adaptable, curious, and eager to do. Crua identifies as feminist, inclusive, and ageless, with a program whose objectives are the conception and dissemination of transdisciplinary artistic practices that address issues relevant to contemporaneity, escaping the logic of productive compulsion and institutional restraints. Crua Cura proposes a curatorial program that invites exhibitions of international and local artists, lectures and performances that enhance the dialogue around artistic language.
In the future, Crua wants to create an artist residency program and a biannual performance art festival expanding the exchange between artists and the Calipolense community. More news soon!
