En 1933, deux cheminots venus de Biarritz pour le travail, eurent l'idée de monter un club de rugby à Clichy. Cette influence historique se retrouve encore aujourd’hui dans les couleurs du club qui sont restées très proches de ceux du club basque, le Biarritz Olympique. Parmi les nombreux jeunes passés par le Club Sportif Clichy Rugby, certains ont vu le jour au plus haut niveau : Salim Tebani (Oyonnax), Olivier Missoup (Stade Français Paris / Oyonnax / Raçing 92) ou encore Serge Betsen (Biarritz Olympique).
