The Professional Technical College Jesus Ocaña Rojas, is an institution that was born thanks to the goodwill of Don Rosario Carrillo Lopez along with his honorable wife, who in a noble action, in his will expressed in his own hand, donated the lands located on the north side of the Alajuela central park, with the aim of creating a chapel there to San Miguel and a teaching center.
Nevertheless, this land was destined to the construction of the weapons barracks of Alajuela; This construction was completed in 1874 under the administration of Don Tomás Guardia and rebuilt in 1936 under the presidency of Lic. León Cortés Castro serving as such until February 18, 1959.
Over the years, the will of Don Rosario Carrillo became a reality and after a long wait at the end of 1959, due to a desire of the Alajuela people to have a vocational college; was that the liberationist deputy for the province of San José, Mr. Alfonso Carro Zúñiga, presented the project for the creation of the college before the Legislative Assembly; It was approved and became law # 2473. The building that housed the weapons barracks went on to serve as a vocational college in the province of Alajuela, under the administration of President Mario Echandi Jimenez.
