Our Vision: Dance Institute of Washington increases the inclusive and diverse representation at every level of the professional ballet and dance industries locally in DC, and through that exemplary effort, impacts racial and economic equity in dance nationally and globally.
Our Mission: The Dance Institute of Washington is dedicated to: building self-esteem, discipline and the drive for excellence among children and youth through dance training and a holistic arts education; providing professional performance opportunities for dancers; enhancing Washington’s rich cultural diversity.
Who We Do: DIW has the draw--our historic ties to the pioneers of Black Concert Dance such as Dance Theatre of Harlem; our passionate, culturally-competent, and renowned teaching artists; our state-of-the-art studio space; and our holistic training programs--to attract, retain, and advance underrepresented communities who otherwise might not ever experience quality dance training or view it as a viable option for future success.
DIW is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
