DanScatt's activities aim to cultivate and increase the number of users of X-ray and neutron sources in Denmark. The starting point is the universities, but the effort also includes businesses.
DanScatt supports Denmark's activities at international facilities for radiation research, e.g. European Synchrotron Radiation Facility and Institut Laue-Langevin (France), Swiss Light Source and Swiss Spallation Neutron Source (Switzerland), Diamond and ISIS Neutron and Muon Source (UK), Deutsches Elektronen -Synchrotron and E-XFEL (Germany), Spring-8 and J-PARC (Japan) and MAX IV (Sweden). It happens i.a. by financing travel activities for researchers in the network and by supporting knowledge sharing within its research areas. Going forward, DanScatt will also play an important role for Danish activities at the upcoming neutron research center European Spallation Source, ESS (Sweden).
DanScatt members are involved in the construction of instruments at ESS. The spectrometer BIFROST has been constructed under the leadership of Danish Technical University, with contributions from the University of Copenhagen and will be one of the first instruments to record data at ESS. The diffractometer HEIMDAL will be built under the direction of Aarhus University. DanScatt members have also contributed to the design of other ESS instruments, for example the MIRACLES spectrometer.
DanScatt continuously monitors the status, development, and opportunities at the facilities around the world, such as job postings and projects, to ensure that the country's university researchers in the neutron and X-ray field are kept up to date on developments. Additional activities in DanScatts are professional annual meetings as well as support for courses and summer schools. The aim is to improve skills, exchange experience and form networks among students and young researchers with a view to strengthening their further careers and spreading/deepening knowledge in the use of X-ray and neutron radiation.
