Darkwater Consulting Pty Ltd is an independent consultancy based in Western Australia, established to offer appropriate individual and team expertise to address groundwater and mine water challenges and opportunities. Darkwater has been formed by Doug Brown, an experienced mine water manager and qualified geologist and hydrogeologist with a proven track record in successfully combining strong technical, team and business management skills.
Core Capabilities:
- Large Scale Water Management: approval, design, implementation and operation of business-critical aquifer dewatering, replenishment and discharge schemes.
- Catchment scale groundwater resource assessment, development, protection and management.
- Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR): Investigation, design, approval, construction and operation of several of the largest (120 GL/a +) mine water MAR replenishment schemes on the globe.
- Water balancing, tailings water management and environmental approvals.
- Multi-Stakeholder external (Regulator, Traditional Owner, NGO) and internal cross-discipline engagement and technical communication from approvals, through operations to closure.
- Application of a risk assessment platform to workshop, troubleshoot, formulate, simplify and communicate complex water management challenges and mitigation measures at executive level.
- Formation, leadership, management, and motivation of teams of multi-disciplined professionals and contractors in the delivery of award-winning technical solutions.
- In country experience in Australia, UK, Chile, Mongolia, New Zealand, Myanmar, Nigeria and Malaysia.
- Project work undertaken with Fortescue Metals Group (FMG), Fortescue Future Industries (FFI), BHP WAIO, Mineral Resources Limited, Roy Hill (HPPL), Rio Tinto Iron Ore, ERA Ranger, Dampier Salt, Ivanhoe (Oyu Tolgoi/MCCL), Newcrest Mining, Mineral Escondida and the WA Water Corporation.
