Name: Deuka: Ek Jatra
(An Assamese name meaning "The Journey of Wings" in English)
We are a self-funded and volunteer-led Feminist Community Library initiative based in a small village in Assam, India. We are committed to fostering gender justice and equality, ensuring free access to books for marginalized communities, and sparking critical conversations on stigmatized and taboo topics. Our goal is to challenge patriarchal norms and regressive gender stereotypes while creating inclusive, safe, and transformative spaces for education and dialogue.
Our Mission:
To create a space where knowledge is free, gender equality is championed, and everyone—irrespective of age, gender, or socioeconomic background—can access resources, share ideas, and grow together.
Who we are?
1. Feminist Foundation: We promote gender equity by curating a diverse collection of feminist literature and hosting workshops on gender sensitivity, LGBTQIA+ rights, and community-building.
2. Queer-Safe Space: As an inclusive initiative, the library actively supports and welcomes LGBTQIA+ individuals, fostering a safe and affirming environment.
3. No-Cost Access: All our resources, programs, and activities are completely free, breaking down barriers to education and knowledge.
4. Rural Empowerment: Rooted in a rural setting, we focus on uplifting marginalized voices, especially children and youth from Tea Tribal and Adivasi communities.
