Im Mittelpunkt der Arbeit der Fachgruppe Public Relations / Organisationskommunikation steht die Forschung zur Kommunikation in, von und über Organisationen. Seit ihrer Gründung im Jahr 1991 vertritt und unterstützt die Fachgruppe die Interessen der DGPuK-Mitglieder, die zu Themen und Fragestellungen der Public Relations und Organisationskommunikation forschen und lehren.
Die Fachgruppe veranstaltet Tagungen, initiiert wissenschaftliche Publikationen und dient als Forum für die gegenseitige Information über und die Koordination von Aktivitäten in Forschung und Lehre. Sie fördert den wissenschaftlichen Mittelbau, u. a. durch jährliche Doktorand:innenworkshops und einen Dissertationspreis, und arbeitet dabei eng mit dem Mittelbaunetzwerk naprok zusammen.

The Public Relations and Organisational Communications Division of the German Communication Association focuses on research on communication within, about, and of organisations. The division represents and supports the interests of members of the German Communication Association who are engaged in research and lecturing on public relations and organisational communication.
The division organises annual conferences and workshops and coordinates publications resulting from presentations, thereby offering a platform for the discussion of current research topics within the scientific community. These occasions also provide a forum for the exchange of knowledge between practitioners and researchers in the field of public relations and organisational communication. The division promotes early career researchers (ECR), among other things by annual PhD workshops and a dissertation price, and co-operates thereby closely with the ECR network naprok.
