As an academic unit of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS), the Department of History and Philosophy (DHP) was established on January 1, 2015, and has since been offering General Education Development (GED) courses to undergraduate students at North South University. The courses are designed to enhance knowledge in both national and global history while fostering the ethical and moral values of our students. Key areas of focus within the field of history include national culture and heritage, the emergence of Bangladesh, world history, and civilization. The philosophy cluster emphasizes business ethics, visionary thinking, and various aspects of human psychology. The department has previously employed several full-time foreign faculty members, with two currently serving. In addition to classroom instruction, faculty members are actively engaged in knowledge creation within their respective fields.
Recently, DHP launched a new graduate program titled Master in History and Asian Studies (MAHAS), which offers a one-and-a-half-year international standard master's program at NSU. The program focuses on the regional history of the Asian continent and contemporary issues related to Asia. Students in this program will benefit from learning about Asia's historical transitions, development, democratic struggles, geopolitical significance, and future prospects. The program also offers scholarships for meritorious students.
