Dig It aim to improve the physical and mental health of all who take part. The allotment is a safe and secure community project that encourages volunteers to learn skills in growing fresh fruit and vegetables, gain knowledge on the impact of food, while offering an opportunity to socialise and make long lasting friendships.
Dig it provides volunteers with the chance to be active, reduces isolation and improve mental wellbeing.
Volunteers do not need any previous gardening experience, just an interest in growing and love of the outdoors. The sessions are volunteer led and designed so that all who are involved can contribute to the development of the site. Tasks at the allotment are varied from planning, preparing the space, developing the site, planting, upkeep of the plots and harvesting what is grown.
Dig It Community Allotment are looking for members of the local community to volunteer join in their local community project. The last year has seen a small and passionate group of volunteers develop the site. The team have spent the winter months preparing the allotment to be safe, providing a socially distanced space whilst still offering groups a sociable and practical setting. Dig It has recruited sessional workers who have a wealth of knowledge and experience in gardening, social and horticultural therapy practices. As a charity we are run by a dedicated project coordinator and experienced team of trustees.
Dig It Community Allotment is located at the Byrds Farm Lane Allotment site which is tucked away just behind Crocus Fields road, just off Little Walden Road at the north end of Saffron Walden.
We run two sessions per week (from Feb-Nov)
Monday 9.30-12.30
Friday 10.30-13.30
Sessions are supervised by our sessions leaders.
