The Digital Asset Co. is a FinTech company that has developed a proprietary white label platform and mobile iOS and Android app facilitating the tokenisation of various different assets across multiple blockchains – Hyperledger, Ethereum and Corda – ranging from precious metals, commodities, equities, financial instruments, fiat currencies, real estate, collectibles, fresh produce, consumables and even livestock – aiding liquidity in previously illiquid assets through immediate and transparent price discovery and Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG).
The digital representation of the asset, in the form of the token, represents a ‘digital warehouse receipt’ of ownership that is made immutable and irrefutable by blockchain technology.
Embedded into the token is the data that links the underlying asset intrinsically and inextricably to the token – clear ownership title, details of custody/location, description of asset type, quality, and quantity, ESG, and any other relevant information.
Many assets are difficult to price or risk-assess when determining their value, or when used as collateral against a bank loan, or in a distressed ‘fire-sale’, resulting in the seller oftentimes being penalised and unable to benefit from the best possible ‘fair’ market-value of the asset at time of valuation or sale. Lack of information, historical data and risk further hinders the process.
The current system is rife for manipulation with subjective price evaluation carried out frequently by the lending bank or institution acting as the appraiser and lender.
Furthermore, under the current system the asset is very regularly sold as the entire asset, even if only a portion is needed to offset the debt or satisfy a temporary collateral requirement.
Tokenising an ‘illiquid’ asset and trading the asset either directly or through an exchange validates the value through open, free-market forces.
