Dopey Podcast Overview

Dopey was created in 2016 by two addicts, Dave and Chris, on the Lower East Side of Manhattan after meeting in treatment. What began as a way to pass the time turned into a passion and Dopey quickly gained a devoted following known as the "Dopey Nation". Dopey has become one of the premier self-help podcasts that focuses on recovery from drug and alcohol addiction in a comedic manner. It’s rapidly growing global listening audience totals nearly 20,000 per weekly episode and has totaled over 2 million downloads. For nearly 5 years Dopey has grown mass appeal with individuals inside and outside of traditional recovery programs by presenting the experience, strength and hope of individuals from all walks of life. Guests have included Jamie Lee Curtis, Dr. Drew Pinsky and Marc Maron. Dopey was featured on the popular NPR series “This American Life” back in 2019 and then replayed this past January. This movement is characterized by any type of recovery one uses in order to better their life. Whether that is 12 step, medication assisted therapy, religion, etc. Dopey has created a space for addicts from all walks of life to tune in and connect, laugh and share. During the quarantine, with many 12 step meetings going on zoom. Dopey meetings began to spring up as well. Today their is at least one "Dopey Zoom" meeting per day, open to anyone with a desire to stop/ moderate their drug/alcohol use.
