Defence Research and Development Bureau (DRDB) Overview

The Defence Research and Development Bureau (DRDB) was established to conduct robust research and development in defence and security-related matters. Additionally, the Bureau is saddled with the responsibility of initiating and coordinating research and development efforts in the Armed Forces of Nigeria to provide strategic direction for the actualization of a robust military-industrial complex in Nigeria. The overall effort is the attainment of self-reliance in military technology, weapon systems and platforms including support equipment for Nigeria's defence and security services. The Bureau, which is headed by the Director General and assisted by the Deputy Director General, is organised into an administrative headquarters and 4 field units (Centres) that are in the offing. There are 11 directorates and a Procurement Unit at the Administrative Headquarters. MISSION To provide strategic direction for self-reliance in defence and security needs through research and development. VISION To be an internationally recognized research and development organization capable of meeting Nigeria's defence and security needs, while leveraging the expertise of indigenous and international partners.
