Gedetineerden die moeilijk plaatsbare asielhonden trainen: dat is het concept waarmee Dutch Cell Dogs in 2009 begon. Mens en hond – beide opgesloten – en daardoor kwetsbare doelgroepen die hun weg naar de samenleving proberen te hervinden, wisten elkaar hier te helpen. Een gedetineerde traint een asielhond, maar in wezen traint hij zichzelf. Deelnemers resocialiseren hierdoor. Ze worden opener, krijgen een positiever toekomstperspectief en meer zelfvertrouwen. Ook de honden laten oude patronen los en leren nieuwe vaardigheden aan waardoor ze een grotere kans krijgen op een nieuw liefdevol thuis. Bijna 15 jaar later, waarbij we 1.500 mensen en honden hebben geholpen, trainen we niet alleen in de gevangenis, ook TBS klinieken, Jeugdzorginstellingen en in de verslavingszorg helpen mens en hond elkaar, op weg naar een betere toekomst.
Prisoners training hard-to-place shelter dogs: that is the concept Dutch Cell Dogs began with in 2009. Man and dog - both incarcerated - and therefore vulnerable target groups trying to find their way back into society, knew how to help each other here. A detainee trains a shelter dog, but essentially trains himself. Participants resocialise as a result. They become more open, gain a more positive outlook and self-confidence. The dogs also let go of old patterns and learn new skills, giving them a greater chance of a new loving home. Almost 15 years later, in which we have helped 1,500 people and dogs, we do not only train in prisons, but also TBS clinics, Youth Care Institutions and in addiction care, helping people and dogs together, on their way to a better future.
