An idea, born out of the need to provide effective interventions within rural communities, bringing about change to combat the challenges faced by young girls and women is the dream of Ekakanya Foundation. The projects are supported by a deep understanding of the areas and varying cultures, allowing Ekakanya to transform the lives of girls through educational empowerment and attitudinal changes
Ekakanya projects are implemented in the rural areas of Rajasthan. Rajasthan is one of the backward states in India with respect to the status of the girl child and woman, as reflected in various socio economic and demographic indicators. The statistics reflects that adolescence being an important stage of growth and development, which is socially encouraged, serves an additional health risk. Similarly, lack of education opportunities and economic empowerment of women differ across regions and are strongly associated with the mode of economy and culture molded by the environment which further influences the status of the young girls in rural areas. Thus, our projects demonstrate evidence-based design and content that give girls the opportunity to achieve their fullest potential and participate in as change leaders to create positive change in their own lives and in their communities
