The ELLIS Unit Lisbon is a unit of the European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems (ELLIS), a pan-European network that promotes research excellence and advances breakthroughs in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML).
The unit is hosted at the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) of the University of Lisbon (UL), and brings together researchers from three leading research institutes in AI and ML: Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT), Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores (INESC-ID), and the Institute for Systems and Robotics (ISR-Lisboa).
The Lisbon Unit was established to boost collaborative research and training in AI & ML in Portugal and Europe, and to empower AI researchers to maximise the social and economic impact of their research at an international level, with the ultimate goal of becoming a leader in AI & ML research.
