Why do we do it? The Equity Health Lab aims to mobilize the essential lever provided by the training of future professionals to promote access to health, social and civil rights for vulnerable groups, particularly foreigners living in precarious conditions. The aim is to develop the attitudes, practices and skills needed to improve disciplinary and interdisciplinary support for students in our faculties and programs.
Who it involves? The ULB Faculties of Public Health (academic coordinator: Pr. Céline Mahieu), Medicine, Motor Sciences, Pharmacy, Law and Psychology, the HELB Social work, Nursing and Midwifery programs, as well as associations and organizations working with these groups (Ciré, Médecins du monde, Constats asbl, Conseil du Contentieux des étrangers, Artha, SMES, Hôpital St Pierre, etc.).
How ? The program combines 3 modalities: Livelabs + dissemination workshops + a learning community.
In practice, 10 volunteer students from each faculty or program are selected to take part in a hands-on, field-based learning program (LiveLab) as part of their coursework. These students from different disciplines work with migrants in real-life situations, in collaboration with the citizens/patients, professionals and structures involved.
In order to disseminate the skills and knowledge acquired during the LiveLab to students who do not participate in the Equity Health Lab, Workshops for the dissemination and reflexive transfer of learning are organized in each Faculty.
A Community of learning and exchange of best practices has also been created between teachers (9 faculties/programs), who reinject the skills acquired via the LiveLab and the Learning Community into the courses of the teachers involved.
