Europaspåret Overview

The European Track is the City of Landskrona's proposal for a new fixed link for road and rail traffic across Öresund connecting Copenhagen in Denmark and Landskrona i Sweden. The unique feature of the European Track is that the connection can handle both regional, long-distance and freight trains which no other proposal can do. The only fixed link across Öresund, the Öresund Bridge, has capacity problems and is a bottleneck in the European railway corridor between Scandinavia and Europe. In 2029, the Fehmarn Belt connection between Denmark and Germany will open, creating a new route for freight and long-distance traffic. This implies that traffic across Öresund will increase significantly making bottleneck issues even worse. New capacity for rail traffic across Öresund and an alternative link to create redundancy and reliability in the rail system is needed. The European Track is the only proposal that can solve this issue. That is why we are working for the Swedish and Danish authorities to analyze the proposal before any dicision about a new fixed link across Öresund is decided.
