Girls who have experienced trauma are at a significantly elevated risk of engaging in self-harm and suicide ideation. Intervening when these girls are in their middle school years offers the best opportunity to change their trajectory. They need specialized, intensive support during this transitional period of their lives and some girls will need residential treatment.
