Established in 1942, Masonite South Africa became a trusted manufacturer of the original hardboard product known as Masonite - a name that became synonymous with premium quality in the DIY, construction, carpentry and packaging industries. The company boasts a legacy of manufacturing excellence, and holds an esteemed position as a global producer of high quality engineered wood products. In 2016 Masonite South Africa was purchased by Millco, a consortium of two South African investment companies: Jacobs Capital and Black Bird Capital. As a result, Masonite South Africa is now a 100% locally owned company, and backed by investors with international experience and local knowledge.

Trading as Evowood, the business will build on the foundation established by Masonite South Africa with a re-energised and reinvigorated spirit. Evowood - evolutionary wood - will strive to continue our legacy of quality, service and extensive manufacturing experience, while strategically planning, designing and implementing new innovations to deliver superior products that meet the ever-growing needs of the engineered wood market.
PERFECTLY POSITIONED FOR SUCCESS
Located closely to Durban and Richards Bay, and situated on a main transport route to Gauteng (SA’s largest market), Evowood operates from a mill based in Estcourt, KwaZulu-Natal and is ideally positioned to service the primary South African Market, SADEC and international markets. The mill houses a wood yard, chipping operation, refining department, four hardboard production presses, a coating plant, a softboard (insulation) line and an extensive secondary fabricating facility. Under new ownership, extensive investment will enable Evowood to maintain and improve on its high standards. Evowood is committed to being ‘engineered better’ and continuing to deliver the same quality that customers have come to trust, however under a brand-new name.
