Founded by Yukihiro Nakabayashi in December 2016, EXest is a tourism start-up that aims to connect people who would not otherwise be able to meet, and create amazing experiences (“wow moments”) for them. It currently runs two platforms: The first, WOW U, is a matching platform that connects people who want to visit Japan and guides who know Japan inside out. The second, WOW U-media, is a media platform that provides interesting content about Japanese culture to a global audience. Through diverse content and activity offerings, we hope to increase interest in and knowledge about Japan, and enable meaningful connections between people of different cultures.
The strength of our offering is our vast network of qualified guides and partnering local broadcasters which spans the whole of Japan. This network allows us to offer an unparalleled variety of activities and content that accommodates all tastes. It also means that we can introduce people with an interest in Japan to local sights and attractions that are off the beaten track and are lesser known even among Japanese people. Especially the Japanese countryside and smaller towns are something we want more non-Japanese travelers to experience first-hand. We hope that our activities will ultimately contribute to local revitalization and internationalization in Japan.
