The letters of FIMCAP stand for Fédération Internationale des Mouvements Catholiques d’Action Paroissiale (French for “International Federation of Catholic Parochial Youth Movements“). FIMCAP was founded in 1962 and is recognized as an official Catholic organization by the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life. FIMCAP is a voluntary based organization. With exception of the Secretary General, all tasks are done by volunteers and all positions are voluntary positions. FIMCAP aims for gender balance in all its bodies. FIMCAP has an Intercontinental Bureau. This Intercontinental Bureau is composed of the FIMCAP presidium, the presidents of the continental structures and co-opted members in a specific role. The Intercontinental Bureau meets twice a year. For FIMCAP AFRICA, we have 12 different member organizations in 9 different countries. From Uganda to Ghana to Sierra Leone to Botswana to Rwanda to Congo to Nigeria to Burundi to South Africa, we exist under different names. Chiro Botswana, Chiro Burundi, CYO Ghana, CYO Nigeria, CYO Sierra Leone, Kiro Kongo, Xaveri Burundi, Chiro Southern Africa, Xaveri Congo, Xaveri Rwanda, Xaveri South Africa, Xaveri Uganda.
