Fire Service Research And Training Trust

Fire Service Research And Training Trust company information, Employees & Contact Information

The Fire Service Research and Training Trust (FSR&TT) was established 1940, using funding provided by the insurance sector to encourage study and experiment on fire protection and prevention. Within the objects of the Trust, we aim to promote and assist: • Research into the prevention of, protection from or response to, fire and rescue service related risks posed to businesses or communities • Training fire and rescue service personnel • Securing improvements in appliances of value to the fire and rescue service • Securing the general efficiency and effectiveness of UK fire and rescue services as a whole Over the years, we have been able to help the fire and rescue service in a variety of ways, from establishing the Fire Research Station at Borehamwood in 1949, which is now part of the Building Research Establishment, to acquiring a new site for the Scottish Fire Service Training School in Gullane in 1953. Research sponsored by the Trust has been shaping the UK fire and rescue services throughout its history, from research into the first fire training simulators to firefighter fitness studies at the University of Bath and more recently, research into the effect of water cutting and extinguishing techniques on compartment fires at the University of Edinburgh. There are four ways in which grants can be made in support of the Trust’s objects: • Scholarship Award: a personal development grant towards the cost of a study programme • Research Fellowship Award: A grant towards the cost of a postgraduate (doctoral) studies programme • Research Project Grant: A grant towards the costs of a research project into matters that relate to the objects of the Trust, hosted by a recognised research organisation • Small Project Grant: Support for non-commercial entities developing ideas or training that will help the fire sector
