The terms explosion proof and flameproof are the same in that they both refer to the way in which items are constructed. Despite their names, explosion proof and flameproof components are not able to withstand an exterior explosion. Rather, it is the part’s capacity to thwart an internal spark or explosion from triggering a much larger blast.
