Rose is a small fishing village on the northwestern coast of the Luštica Peninsula, opposite Herceg Novi.
Once a Greek settlement called Punto Roza, it was destroyed by the Saracens in 867 AD and later came under various rulers, including the Romans, Byzantines, and Austro-Hungarians.
During Austro-Hungarian rule, agriculture, especially olive cultivation, was improved, making olive oil from Rose highly valued. Many of the olive trees planted during that time still bear fruit today.
Rose is rich in archaeological findings, including the remains of a 16th-century Spanish shipwreck. The village is home to the Church of the Holy Trinity, which has a cemetery for maritime captains, and the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, built in 1783. The settlement flourished in the 17th and 18th centuries when sailors from Luštica navigated the Mediterranean and global seas with their sailing ships.
