Free Akal Takht was founded in January 2016. to develop Gurmat-derived and Guru-inspired methods to work towards a free and independent Akal Takht Sahib for the global Sikh Qaum. We believe that the Akal Takht must not be under any political party, government body, or state system. The Akal Takht, its offices, and Jathedar must be free from interference. Historically, decisions were made at the Akal Takht through the consensus based, sovereign, governance system known as the Sarbat Khalsa. Free Akal Takht is working towards reinvigorating and reestablishing the institution of the Sarbat Khalsa so that it is representative of global Sikhs and speaks for the entire Guru Khalsa Panth. We are envisaging the 21st century role and functions of the Akal Takht based on Gurmat principles.
