At From Zero to Hero, we believe education is paramount. We provide essential education to multicultural community members, helping them understand Australian aquatic culture and the importance of water safety. Simultaneously, we equip aquatic industry staff with the knowledge to effectively engage with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities, addressing challenges and breaking down barriers.
"From Zero to Hero" was founded in June 2017 by Nadia Azizabadi, a passionate advocate for aquatic education. The initiative began with the mission of teaching adult migrants how to swim, building water confidence, and imparting vital safety knowledge. Through collaborations with local organizations and driven by fundraising efforts, the program successfully trained many refugees and migrants in the invaluable skill of swimming.
Nadia Azizabadi brings a wealth of experience to the initiative. With a background in social sciences and interpreting, she recognizes the importance of culturally sensitive teaching methods. Her journey as a TEDx speaker and keynote speaker at many conferences underlines her position as a thought leader in aquatic education.
The initiative's major achievements include its profound impact on the lives of migrants and refugees. Through partnerships with community organizations, local schools, and swimming centers, "From Zero to Hero" has not only taught swimming but also facilitated the integration and well-being of diverse communities. Its success is evidenced not only in the newfound skills of participants but also in the establishment of a self-sustaining cycle of learning and contribution.
