-A geothermal heat pump system is a refrigeration device that utilizes a ground loop and the earth's energy to heat and/or cool a structure. The refrigeration cycle (taking advantage of the energy transfers from a phase change (gas to liquid, liquid to gas)) can leverage and multiply input energy into additional BTU's. Connected to the earth with its relatively stable temperatures, performance can be as much as 5 times the input.
