GAN Belgium is a national antenna of the Global Apprenticeship Network (GAN), a public private partnership launched in 2013. GAN was created as a response to the global youth unemployment crisis and the need for businesses to ensure skills for the future.
It is a coalition of companies that:
• Commit to increase the number of work-readiness opportunities for youth
• Facilitate the exchange of best practices on quality apprenticeship programmes and other work-based training
• Promote and advocate for apprenticeships and work-based training for youth
• Engage at the local level with stakeholders to address the mismatch of skills and influence national policy.
The GAN is coordinated by the International Organisation of Employers (IOE) and the OECD’s Business and Industry Advisory Committee (BIAC), with the support of the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
GAN Belgium was founded in June 2018 by 19 companies and employer federations and aims to address youth unemployment and the future of work for employees of all ages through an innovative and effective multisector approach.
GAN Belgium aims to:
• Facilitate dialogue between stakeholders in the labour market, educational institutions and government
• Strive to create a positive image and mindset towards work-based learning
• Influence and accelerate the development of the legal framework to improve social & fiscal regulations
• Proactively facilitate the development of work-readiness programs in all regions
