Geaux 4 Kids, Inc. is an advocate for children in foster care and provides support for their well-being through various projects, programs, and collaborations. Founder K.C. Kilpatrick began the organization as an independent, grassroots effort after becoming a foster parent in 2013 and discovering exactly how stressful the initial 24­48 hours of receiving children into foster care were, and how impossible it was to adequately prepare. She began purchasing supplies at her own expense and distributing supplies to foster children out of the trunk of her car. The organization was formalized in 2015: Geaux 4 Kids, Inc. was registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and organization’s flagship program Geaux Bags was approved as a registered trademark. Geaux 4 Kids operated for the first five years solely on volunteers and donations, most in the form of in-kind materials and supplies. Geaux 4 Kids In 2019, the organization created its first paid Executive Director position to coordinate projects, donations, volunteers, board activities and advocacy work. KC Kilpatrick now serves as the Executive Director. THE STORY BEHIND HOW IT BEGAN It all started when 2 children came to KC with only the clothes on their back and a meth pipe in a Winn-Dixie bag. Here is the complicated simple truth: Two siblings, age 1 and 2, were rescued by calls to 1-888-LA Help U/ 1-855-4LA-KIDS, the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), by several concerned family members of the very people incapable of caring for their biological children. At such young ages, these children had already experienced the worst life has to offer: abuse, neglect, and the destructive cycle of addiction.
