Founded in 2017, our vision is to promote increased Official Development Assistance (ODA) from Hong Kong. With huge fiscal reserves, we believe the HKSAR government can and should pursue the goal of improving the welfare of developing countries by providing more ODA. To achieve our vision of increased ODA, mechanisms might include a rise in the current emergency disaster relief funding or contributing to effective long-term health and anti-poverty programs.
OUR WORK
1. Collecting Public Opinion
To determine the views of the public, we collaborated with the Hong Kong University Public Opinion Programme to conduct a survey, which we published in the journal PLOS ONE in 2018. The median of the portion of the Hong Kong government’s budget that people want to be spent on the Disaster Relief Fund (DRF) is 2.4%.
2. Connecting With Stakeholders
We must recognise the current aid situation before advocating changes. To understand the reality of the existing Disaster Relief Fund, we communicate with NGOs and stakeholders from different sectors participating in the DRF in Hong Kong. In general, they are very supportive of the fund.
OUR MISSION
1. Awakening Awareness
Generocity was founded to promote, through public engagement and education, the public awareness of the impact of Hong Kong’s development assistance. Ultimately, we wish to persuade the government to change its development assistance policy.
2. Catalyzing Policy Change
DRF has proven its value in responding to emergencies, but true leadership lies in playing a more vital role in sustainable commitment. By incorporating ODA into our policy framework, we can move beyond reactive measures to proactive, sustainable solutions.
3. Working In Partnership
We partner with NGOs, academia, industries and business interest groups, resulting in a holistic understanding of challenges and opportunities from the stakeholders across different sectors.
