R. Brian Hamilton, owner and CEO of Hamilton Consulting, provides more than 25 years of leadership in the design, development, and support of science assessment programs. Brian has supported science assessment contracts with multiple states by conducting alignment studies, supporting federal peer review processes, and developing performance level descriptors. Brian is a seasoned science subject matter expert who has abundant experience working with teams of K–12 science teachers, higher education science faculty, and curriculum coordinators. He has overseen the design, development, and implementation of high-stakes, nationwide science assessment systems and managed large teams of science test developers.
Most recently, Brian has worked with states to devise novel strategies for federal peer review processes. For example, he developed state science assessment frameworks to articulate how state assessments measure state standards and the NGSS. His experience includes innovative science assessments (formative and summative), technology-enhanced and constructed-response items, and automated item generation. He has contributed key language and messaging for state, national, and international contract bids. Having led them for several years, Brian is the leading expert on the ACT science tests.
Last year, Brian launched Hamilton Consulting with the goal of advising and collaborating with educational companies, state departments of education, and other stakeholders to support and improve their science assessment programs.
