Established on January 6, 1776 and first commanded by Alexander Hamilton, 1st Battalion, 5th Field Artillery, “Hamilton’s Own,” is the oldest unit in the US Military on Active Duty. Hamilton’s Own served in nearly all conflicts of the United States earning 78 battle streamers in its storied lineage. First established as the New York Provincial Artillery, Hamilton’s Own now calls the historic Fort Riley, Kansas its home—home of America’s first Division, the First Infantry Division, and America’s first Brigade, the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team to whom the battalion is subordinate to.
