🫁🏥Did you know that 53% of patients in intensive care units are connected to mechanical ventilation and suffer from respiratory muscle atrophy? When these muscles weaken, the patient 🙍🏽♂️ has difficulty breathing on their own, this lengthens their stay in the ICU and complicates their recovery. 💡⚙️ Heecap is a non-invasive, personalized electrostimulation system that keeps respiratory muscle strength in these patients. 🎯Heecap prevents and treats respiratory muscle atrophy, which will allow patients to have a much more successful weaning from mechanical ventilation, shortening their hospital stay and improving their quality of life. Heecap was born during dHEALTH 2020, an academic program in healthcare innovation that applies Biodesign methodology to detect real unmet clinical needs. 🫱🏽🫲🏽Now Heecap works in close collaboration with Vall d’Hebron Hospital and Parc Tauli Hospital to develop the technology and arrive to patients!
