Dr. Wei He,MD,PhD, after receiving his education at Kyushu University in Japan, has returned to China with a vision to establish an eye care system that provides high quality, genuine, and sustainable eye care to people in China. Founded in 1995, He Eye Care System (HECS) has become a comprehensive eye care system after 20 years of hard work and strong development. Today, HECS is composed of seven major eye hospitals, fifty vision centers, an undergraduate university educating 8,000 students, and a translational research industry to serve the people in China.
Started from a small eye clinic in 1995, there are now 7 He Eye Hospitals located in Liaoning Province in China to serve the local population. In 2013, the National Health and Family Planning Committee acknowledged HECS as the Key National Specialty Organization. With the support of 50 vision centers covering 50 million populations in Liaoning, HECS is building an effective tri-level eye care model to provide quality eye care to people in China.
In 1999, He University was established with Dr. He’s dream of not only to serve the people, but also to train the young generation to serve the people in need. Today, the university is educating more than 8,000 undergraduates who are studying in clinical medicine, nursing, optometry, arts, healthcare management, and 10 other majors.
At HECS’ research industry facility, ideas such as stem cell guided retinal regeneration, vision-brain cognitive investigation, and dry eye treatment with traditional medicine were translated into products to benefit the population with eye problems. In addition, HECS has the capability of manufacturing its own intra ocular lenses to reduce the overall cost of cataract surgeries in China.
