Hellenic Shipyards S.A. was the largest shipyard in the area of the eastern Mediterranean from the mid 1950s to the end of 2022. During its operation, it stood worldwide for its outstanding know-how and experience in building and repairing naval and commercial ships. It also carried out major new building projects for the Hellenic Navy such as the MEKO frigates and the Class 214 submarines, which are to this day the backbone of the Hellenic Navy's Fleet.
In April 2018, Hellenic Shipyards S.A. was placed under special administration and the company stopped operating altogether in January 2023, when the entire staff was dismissed and all activity in the yard stopped.
It has since been replaced by a different business entity with a new corporate name, operating under a new owner and with different limited staff.
