Led by Prof. Dr. Dimitrios S. Paraforos, the Digital Agriculture Group is one of the departments of Geisenheim University. Initially founded in 1951, the department is bringing together research and development in innovative technology solutions for sustainable viticulture and horticulture cultivation. Our research integrates precision agriculture, robotics, IoT, and AI to enhance efficiency and sustainability in specialty crop production.
Our Research & Projects
We develop innovative solutions to optimize farm management, automate processes, and improve decision-making. Key projects include:
🌱 Diwakopter – Developing multicopter-based digital solutions for viticulture and arable farming, allowing real-world testing of agricultural technologies in collaboration with industry partners. www.diwakopter.de

🌾 NSmartSystem – Smart nitrogen management for diverse cropping systems, optimizing fertilizer application through precision agriculture.
🔬 LOEWE Transfer Professur – A strategic initiative to develop new technologies for sustainable specialty crop production, combining AI, robotics, and sensor-based solutions.
🤖 ISObot – Creating an intelligent, interoperable system for managing field robots and agricultural machinery, with a focus on improving weed management in viticulture and precision hoeing in arable farming.
Our research supports EU sustainability goals, including the Green Deal and Biodiversity Strategy, while prioritizing data security, CO₂ reduction, and smart crop protection.
