We founded HitSeed Oy for serving the boom of new IoT companies, complementing the clients in firmware and hardware R&D skills, manufacturing contracts and other roles. Initially, HitSeed worked with some sweat equity cases for startups and as a consultant for SMEs that were starting typically the development of the 2nd generation of their embedded product. Improving the products, e.g. in manufacturing costs, quality issues, adding functionality and sourcing more scalable manufacturing.
After the first few years, most of the HitSeed assignments have emerged as contract product creation projects for embedded devices, with some cloud integration.
Consumer product domains have included personal health, sports, toys, home automation and smart accessories. B2B products have included industrial automation, an intelligent beehive, retrofitted robotics sensors, remote monitoring and predictive maintenance of motors and pumps, and electronics for an industrial data glove (smart textiles).
These products were connected using either embedded modems, mobile phone apps or IoT gateways. In some cases, we developed the gateways in the same project. These products typically use either a smart phone app or a cloud service for user interface and other additional capabilities.
Hitseed's Sensor Computing: Seednodes are intelligent and independent sensor computers. They collect, analyze and store huge amounts of sensor data completely autonomously using on-board “small data analytics", minimizing the need for data transfer and reliance on external infrastructure. Computed results are transferred wirelessly via Bluetooth LE for further processing in the cloud. SeedNodes can communicate also with each other via a “mesh network”.
Since late 2023, HitSeed worked with biosensor companies and their nanotechnology and CMOS technology providers. We have developed a portable measurement device for GFET biosensors: detecting viruses, molecules, etc. in liquid and gas samples.
