The Hong Kong Public Opinion Research Institute (HKPORI) officially began its independent operations on 1 July 2019, after staying in The University of Hong Kong since 1991 as its Public Opinion Programme. After becoming independent, Dr Robert Chung continued to lead the team with the same vision and mission.
As Hong Kong’s first academic public opinion researcher, the team has been introducing cutting-edge research methods since 1991, aiming to document public sentiment with professional, neutral, and scientific public opinion research. Over the years, HKPORI has gained great international recognition, with Dr Chung himself serving as the President of the World Association for Public Opinion Research (WAPOR) from 2022 to 2024. He is a Hong Kong scholar who has contributed a lot to the global development of public opinion research.
HKPORI is one of the few independent public opinion research institutes in Hong Kong, operating as a non-profit civil society conscientious enterprise. Reflecting on its 33 years of development, the team remains committed to science and democracy, engaging with Hong Kong society through every historical moment. In the future, HKPORI will continue to serve HumanKind with the best of its professional knowledge and social conscience, in the spirit of science and democracy.
