The Foundation's Regional Cancer Hospital of Santa Prudente Santa Casa de Misericórdia was "born" in 2009, through an action developed by the state and federal public prosecutors of Presidente Prudente with the support of the magistrates, who activated the Companhia Energética de São Paulo (CESP) ), in order to restarcisse the municipalities impacted by the filling of the lake of the Sérgio Motta Hydroelectric Power Plant, in Porto Primavera. Of the financial value assigned by CESP, the Public Prosecution Service (Federal and State), together with the judges of Presidente Prudente, reserved a portion of the money to assist in the construction of the Presidente Prudente Cancer Hospital. Thus, in the case of the Santa Casa Provedoria, which had donated the land, through the guidance of these public agencies, Fundaçãoo was created. A not-for-profit, but passive, oversight body of the Judiciary, the State Court of Accounts and other bodies. In this way, the Hospital that was already under construction and that would function as an annex of the Santa Casa started to have a totally autonomous project, equipped with all the necessary facilities and equipment for the treatment and prevention of cancer, enabling people diagnosed with this terrible disease, can be treated in our city, avoiding the displacements to Jaú (+ 300 km), Barretos (+ 400 km) or São Paulo, 570 km from Presidente Prudente. The increase of the area to be built, required that the Santa Casa destined another piece of land, so that the expansion was possible. This has also brought greater responsibility to the Foundation, which has the arduous task of administering competently and transparently, a work that involves expressive public resources.
