The mission of Hoyas for Human Rights is to create an inclusive, collaborative space for meaningful discussion of and mobilization around human rights issues affecting people from within our own campus community to communities across the world. We firmly believe that as students of a diverse and globally-minded institution, we have a shared obligation to amplify and affirm the voices of human rights defenders and populations whose fundamental human rights such as freedom, justice, equality, and self-determination have come under threat. Hoyas for Human Rights also acknowledges that our efforts are building off of the existing, tireless work of decades of activists before us.
Through this inaugural project, we aim to (1) partner with other like-minded organizations for an intersectional, cross- disciplinary, and grassroots approach to justice; (2) encourage recognition of our own positionality within human rights dialogue and movements; and (3) create our own working groups to spur solidarity, learning, and tangible action to combat human rights violations everywhere.
