Administered by University of Wollongong and led by Distinguished Professor Zhengyi Jiang, the Australian Research Council (ARC) Industrial Transformation Training Centre (ITTC) for Innovative Composites for the Future of Sustainable Mining (the Centre) commenced its operation May 2023.
The Centre, with a total funding of 13million from the ARC and partner organisations, is a five year major investment (May 2023 – April 2028). It will create an innovative, interdisciplinary research program to transform Australia’s manufacturing industry and mining equipment technologies through specialist training of industry-focused researchers.
The Centre includes 20 Chief Investigators and 9 Partner Investigators spread across seven Australian universities and eight Local and Overseas Partner Organisations. These universities and organisations include the University of Wollongong, The University of Queensland, The University of New South Wales, The University of Adelaide, Deakin University, Curtin University, Western Sydney University, Roobuck, Bisalloy, SNS Unicorp, Top Iron, Komatsu, Baosteel, HBIS Group and Australia L&Y Mine Equipment Manufacturing Pty Ltd. The Centre will also support over 30 Higher Degree Research students, Postdoctoral Research Fellows and Research Associates.
The Centre aims to produce a team of world class academic and industry leaders that meet future workforce demands, and generate new technologies to support sustainable and cost effective mining equipment and high efficiency mining.
